The chatroom is a friendly place to chat about gymnastics or anything else that may be of interest.
People visit from all over the World, including UK, USA, Romania, Germany, Netherlands, Malaysia, Mexico and Italy.
Please try to keep the chat subject matters clean as people of all ages visit including children.
Important Notes
Firstly, this is an IRC chatroom which by nature is an unmoderated medium, if you do not like this then do not connect.
The hosts and moderators cannot be held responsible for what happens during your time in the room.
Not everyone is as trustworthy as yourself.
Never give out personal details to any strangers.
The preferred language for this chatroom is English.
You need a java compatible browser such as Netscape 4.08, IE 4.0 or later versions to use Java chat pages.
Nicknames
When choosing a nickname for the chat, try to make it something unique,
this chatroom is not the only one on the chat server and lots of names are already taken.
If you use the chat often, you may wish to register your nickname.
You can do this by typing the following into the chat window whilst using the nickname of your choice
/ns register your_password your_email
Then follow the instructions sent to you by email to complete the registration.
Note that the nickname registration system has no relationship with this site, it is part of the chat server itself.
If you have registered your nickname then you will need to identify yourself to the chat server each time you connect.
You can do this by typing the following into the chat window after you have connected.
/ns identify your_password
The chat server will rename you Guest after 60 seconds if you do not enter the correct password.
Chat Times
The chat is open all the time. There are no official chat times for this site.
If there is no one in the chatroom then try hanging around for five minutes rather than leaving straight away.
Chat Etiquette
- If you go in the chatroom and no one is there then try waiting around for five minutes, you never know someone may come in.
- When you first go in the chatroom it is polite to say Hello or Hi, you can always watch the conversation for a while before joining in.
However if you lurk for a very long time do not be surprised if you get booted out. - Bear in mind that some people may be in the chatroom but not always sitting at their computers so be patient if someone does not respond within a few minutes, they may have gone to answer the call of nature or had a phone call.
If their nickname has the words away, afk, sleeping or phone then chances are they are not at their computer. - Joining the chatroom and then leaving straight away is known as zooming and frowned upon.
If you only wish to talk to one person then why not use an instant messenger instead. - Private chat should be used for private conversations not everyday things that can be talked about in the main room.
- When leaving the chatroom, press the Disconnect button otherwise people may still think you are in the room for a short time before the server says otherwise.
How to Connect
If you are using Macintosh then you should read the notes under Known Issues with Java Chat Pages as there are lots of issues with the Mac.
Using Windows XP or having problems with Java, try using Sun Java VM and Internet Explorer.
Firefox browser users, please check you are using the latest version of Java.

IRC Chat Clients
You can also access the chatroom by using an IRC client.
For Windows good choices are XChat, mIRC or Bersirc, but there are lot of others, see here at Tucows.
Unofficial builds of XChat for windows can be found at the following site http://www.silverex.org/

under XChat or mIRC you will need to add the server details as detailed above before you can connect
to join the room you need to type /join #gymnastique
under a proper IRC client, if you have registered your nickname then you will have to identify yourself to the server using your password
this can be done by typing the following:-

If you wish to register a nickname using an IRC client
this can be done by typing the following:-
/ns register your_password your_email
